<hi style=afpcap>For many years the B-57 was the only jet aircraft of non-U.S. design adopted for operational service with the USAF. The B-57A, B, C and E models were essentially similar to the English Electric Canberras in service with the Royal Air Force, although the RB-57D and F versions were highly modified and bore little or no resemblance to their predecessors. The illustration depicts a B-57A of the United States Air Forces in Europe in formation with an RB-57D, effectively showing the massive additional wingspan of the latter. The RB-57Ds were employed on high altitude intelligence sorties along the border of the Iron Curtain until replaced by the RB-57F version. The RB-57D suffered from problems wing its wings which were prone to separating from the fuselage !</hi>
